My neighbor asked me to make her son an Elmo cake for his 2nd birthday. So I recalled a cake that Paulette had made a few years back and had planned on doing one like it, however she didn't have a picture for me to go off of but she did find me a cookie monster one similar to what I was trying to do. Anyhow I think it turned out okay regardless. I took the first pic to show what he looked like without the smile and second shows the mouth. I'm not sure which way I like better. I think the only thing I would change would be to make his eyes closer together and touching, but now I know. This was my first time making a cake that had to be a "true red" and I now know that the color deepens with time--so for all of you make your red frosting a day or so in advance it will get darker. This was also a first using this type of frosting tip--used for hair/fur or grass. I had fun figuring all of it out. I really hope Denny loves his special Elmo Cake! I think for my son's b-day coming up I'll try Cookie Monster but we'll see. Thanks Deb for letting me help in his b-day fun!
